Situated on a small street, no. 6 is a decent family home in which everything seems to balance out. From the exterior, it has one of the wider frontages of homes on this street, a side carport and reasonable access to the rear of the property along the western boundary (the right side). The home comes up equally well inside too, with every quibble I had being met with a counterpoint. For instance, while a master bedroom leading off the family zone at the rear might not appeal to all, it does have double doors that open out onto a back deck and let light in – this is something a bit different from the usual, and also provides good separation from the kids at the front. Similarly, the dull hum of Dandenong Road can be heard in the background, but is compensated for by the substantial and peaceful backyard, a terrific space for kick-to-kick with Lloyd Street friends. With a couple modest-sized bedrooms, the robes aren’t overly large, but there is a series of cupboards located half-way down the central passage and some extra storage outside. The laundry does feel a bit trapped in behind the kitchen, and I would have liked to have seen a door leading to the outside, especially considering the amount of washing a large family can generate. Such a problem is largely eclipsed by the kitchen, however, and the layout and bench space have been well designed. In general it is very accommodating - the flow and the spaces are up to the rough-and-tumble of family life, and it also has enough space for entertaining.
